Profile
I have been a PGA Professional nearly 25 years and have enjoyed helping all levels of golfer improve. I have also spent a great deal of time studying both the golf swing and the best coaches in the world. I have had the opportunity to see at first hand some of the best coaches in the world in action and had the opportunity to learn from them. Not only have I observed and learned from golf coaches but I also have extensive knowledge and experience of working with sports scientists, psychologists and physiotherapists. It is also of great interest to me how we acquire and retain new skills. In 2007 in recognition of this continuous development, I was awarded Fellow Professional Status by the Professional Golfers Association. I hold a PGA/UKCC L3 coaching qualification and also an MSc in Performance Coaching form the University of Stirling.
I take a holistic view toward coaching and will, if required, help with short game, putting, mental skills and recommend help from other sports practitioners to help you achieve your desired goals.
Coaching Philosophy
Each student is an individual and should have their own golf game over which they have both influence and control. My role in the process is to provide information, guidance, structure and support to help you achieve this.
Students
I have had the good fortune to help many talented students in my coaching career. During spells working for the Scottish Golf Union and Stirling University I have had input into the development of players including a US Amateur Champion, Walker Cup and GB&I team members. Other notable students have competed succesfully on the European Tour, Challenge Tour, Ladies European Tour and have won titles on The European Seniors Tour and the Tartan Tour.
Technology
There is a plethora of technology available nowadays to provide feedback on performance and aid the learning process. As well as investing in this technology I offer a balanced view of the application of these sources of feedback. This view is guided by insights from science as to how the augmented feedback that the technology provides is best applied for the benefit of the player. The most important aspect within the process is the development of the player, not the application of the technology!
